Laura wholeheartedly believes in the beauty and resilience of the human spirit and supports each client’s individual strengths and capacity for growth. Laura appreciates and honors the unique challenges that healthcare professionals face. She knows that burnout and strain on the family, especially on couple relationships, are weighty issues. The extra challenges of the last few years with Covid, along with persistent understaffing, have taken a cumulative toll on so many.
Laura views some of our biggest challenges as coming from the battles within, when we don’t fully understand ourselves and our motivations and sometimes act in opposition to what we think we want. She uses an approach informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS) to illuminate the distress and stuckness her clients face. She is also trained in EMDR and uses the approach to help decrease the emotional intensity of challenging memories or beliefs so that her clients can intentionally choose their path forward.
A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Laura earned her Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Alliant University in 2000. She also completed extensive post-graduate studies in couples and family systems theory at Walden University.
Laura trained in EMDR with the Trauma Institute & Child Trauma Institute and is pursuing certification is this very effective and supportive approach.
Laura offers therapy in Spanish and has a long history of supporting the Latinx community.
